We are developing the Next-Generation Reverse Vending Machine that aids class-based plastic pre-sorting. The users can freely insert their consumed plastic products (pre-cleansed), no matter the class, into our RVM.
The conventional RVM utilises solely barcode scanning for the identification of PET bottles.
Nevertheless, not all plastic bottles are presented with barcodes. To achieve universal recognition of plastic classes, we, instead, adopt the NIR technologies. In brief, a unique NIR spectral fingerprint of the plastic sample is revealed under the tungsten light source. The collected dataset is fitted to our Machine Learning Model to uncover the plastic classes.
